Here's a basic recipe: Ingredients: - 1 cup chhena (paneer or cottage cheese) - 1 cup sugar - 4 cups water - A few strands of saffron - 1 tablespoon rose water - 1/2 teaspoon cardamom powder - 1 tablespoon chopped nuts (optional)
Instructions:
1. Start by preparing the chhena. Heat milk until it boils, then add lemon juice or vinegar to curdle the milk. Strain the curdled milk through a muslin cloth and rinse the chhena under cold water to remove any traces of lemon or vinegar.
2. Knead the chhena until it becomes smooth and there are no lumps.
3. Shape the chhena into small balls and flatten them slightly to give them a disc shape.
4. In a deep pan, mix water and sugar and bring it to a boil to make the sugar syrup.
5. Once the sugar syrup starts boiling, add the chhena discs to it. Cover and cook for about 15-20 minutes on low heat.
6. Meanwhile, soak saffron strands in a tablespoon of warm milk.
7. After the chhena discs are cooked, add saffron milk, rose water, and cardamom powder to the syrup. Let it simmer for a few more minutes.
8. Turn off the heat and let the Manohara Misti cool down in the syrup.
9. Garnish with chopped nuts if desired.
10. Serve chilled or at room temperature.
Enjoy your homemade Manohara Misti!
